The project is located in Colonia Juárez, a rapidly developing area of Mexico City. The existing house is partly protected up to the first structural axis from the street. The area is primarily commercial and residential. The project aims to provide generous and well located accommodation within Mexico City that is sensitive to the existing building and the surrounding context, densifying the area with five dwellings and a ground floor commercial unit. The project includes 3 new 2 bedroom flats on the additional levels. The two existing levels will be renovated and restructured to provide two two-bedroom flats as well as concierge, services and a small commercial unit in the old garage. Light wells and interior courtyards provide natural light inside the property. In the courtyards, textured glass is considered to allow natural light to enter without compromising the privacy of the neighbouring flats. The main living area of the new apartments above include an open kitchen and a loggia that crosses the building’s façade overlooking the small plaza below, extending the living space outwards. The main access is from the pedestrian street, which includes a small square with a football and basketball court and a children’s play area.
